Madrid, September 13, 2022.– The plastic artist and art critic Antonio García Villarán presents his first solo exhibition in Madrid “Vanagloria” at the White Lab space –Paseo de la Castellana, 166-, from October 13th to 16th.
The show consists of one hundred thirteen works from the painting series «Andalusian Allegories», «YouTube Martyrs», «Women Artists», and «Self-Portraits», including the 31 self-portraits he is currently producing, one per day, and the drawing series «Nightmares», «Giants», «Freaks», «Greats», «Quarantine 2020», «VindraFest 24h», «My Demons», and «22 Drawings 2022». The exhibition will also include digital crypto art works with NFT technology.
Creator of the «Hamparte» concept with which he criticizes some artistic currents, García Villarán balances his role as an artist with that of an art critic, for which he uses the YouTube platform. The influencer has managed to build a loyal following of over one million subscribers on YouTube with art videos aimed at education but also at criticism and reflection. His unique perspective on established canons is the key to his success.
García Villarán’s work is rich in large formats and themes full of symbolism. His paintings, just like his art criticism videos, are loaded with information delivered to the viewer from different levels and at high speed. His brushwork is fast and decisive, supported by long experience and a life dedicated to the practice and optimization of drawing technique. Dog collars, shawls, hats, and wicker objects are just some of the distinctive allegorical figures that appear in his work. The protagonists of the paintings emerge through a seemingly tangled mass of thick brushstrokes that hide great detail and planning.
Of course, self-portraits will have a central place in this exhibition: the artist who boasts of his own image will proudly display his production and will be present in the exhibition, blurring the lines between the artist’s work and the artist himself.
«Vanagloria» will feature the presence of Mexican writer, historian, columnist, and art critic Avelina Lesper, who will conduct a guided visit commenting on the artist’s work on Saturday, October 15th at 11:00 AM and Sunday, October 16th at 11:00 AM.
Tickets are already on sale on Antonio García Villarán’s website: http://3.123.34.161/vanagloria/
